*ILCには日本の中学校に通っていた生徒も入れますか, 帰国子女のためのコースなのですか？

* Is the International Leadership Course made for Japanese students or for returnees?
The
International Leadership Course is aimed at students who have graduated
from junior high schools in Japan. However, one of the goals of the
International Leadership Course is that the students come together as a
class, and help each other. Every student has different skills, and by
helping each other, students learn from each other, help each other,
and succeed together. This improves the ability of every student.
We usually have a few returnees in each class, and these returnees find
the course challenging. This is because the International Leadership
Course students do not learn only English. We use English as a tool to
teach the students communication, technical writing, public speaking,
research, analytical thinking, and above all, how to succeed.
*ILCには日本の中学校に通っていた生徒も入れますか？
ILCは帰国子女のためのコースなのですか？
ILCは基本的には日本の中学校を卒業した生徒さんたちのためのコースですが、通常平均２，３人の帰国子女の生徒が各クラスに在籍しており、帰国子女の生徒にも、日本で勉強してきた生徒にとっても、やりがいのあるカリキュラムを組んでいます。
一人ひとりの生徒はそれぞれ違う能力を持っていますが、お互いの長所を用いて助け合うことを通して学び合い、共に成功する喜びを感じて欲しいと思っています。 助け合うことによって、生徒の能力は向上します。
ＩＬＣで教えているのは単なる英語ではありません。私たちは英語を道具として用いながら、コミュニケーション、書くこと、人前で話すこと、情報収集、論理的考え方、そしてどのように成功するかを教えています。
* Is the International Leadership Course a high-level English course?
Yes.
However, it is much more than that. English is only one of the things
that we focus on. We also focus on communication, logic, and research.
We teach the students how to communicate effectively. The students learn to give effective speeches, how to do interviews, how to give good presentations, how to persuade others, how to negotiate, how to write essays, how to write research papers, and many other skills that successful people require to communicate in today’s modern world.
The students learn logical thinking. The students learn to solve
problems logically. They learn to judge issues logically, and form
their own opinions based on logic. The logic part of the ILC is what
makes the International Leadership Course international. While
languages differ throughout the world, the one constant is logic. By
communicating logically, people from anywhere can understand each other
because two plus two equals four no matter where you go.
The
students learn to do research. They learn how to find information they
need, analyze it, summarize it, and organize it. They learn to
distinguish what information is trustworthy and what is not. Moreover,
they learn to teach themselves by seeking the information they need,
and then learning it by themselves.
* ＩＬＣはハイレベルな英語コースですか？
ＩＬＣでは英語だけに重点をおいているわけではありません。
コミュニケーション、論理的思考や情報収集などにも同じように重点をおいています。
コミュニケーションについては、 スピーチの仕方、インタビューでの受け答えの仕方、プレゼンテーションの作り方、 人を説得する方法、交渉術、エッセィの書き方、情報を収集してそれを文章にまとめる方法など、 現代社会においてこれから役に立つ効果的なコミュニケーションについて学びます。
論理的思考力については、 筋道を立てて物事を論理的に考え、問題を解決する力をつけます。論理的に物事を判断し、自分の意見を持つことを学びます。この論理的思考力がＩＬＣで得ら れる一番大切な力です。この論理的思考力は２＋２が４になるのと同じように、世界のどこへ行っても通用するものです。論理的思考力を持っていれば、どこの 国のどんな人とも対等にコミュニケーションをとることが出来ます。
効果的な情報収集については、分析の仕方、要約の仕方、まとめ方を学びます。信頼できる情報とそうでない情報を見分け、必要な情報を自分の力で見つけ、自ら学ぶ力を身につけます。
* What is the curriculum in the International Leadership Course? What non-English classes do the students take? Are some classes being cut so they can take more English classes?
The curriculum is balanced. The overall aim is at the three main
subjects required to take entrance exams for elite private
universities: English, Japanese, and history. However, the students do
take some math and science classes, and may choose more in their last
year, enough for them to take the entrance test for a language-oriented
public university.

* ＩＬＣのカリキュラムを教えてください。
英語以外はどのようになっていますか？ 英語を多くの時間勉強することにより、他の科目が充分に勉強できないのではないでしょうか。
ＩＬＣのカリキュラムはトップレベルの私立文系大学を目指して作られています。
英語の他に国語、歴史に力を入れていますが、数学や理科の授業もありますし、特に3年次には自分の進路にあわせ、選択科目として他科目を履修することも可能です。
国公立を目指す生徒も少数ですが在籍しています。詳しい内容は教育課程のページをご覧下さい。
* My child wants to go to college overseas. Can the International Leadership Course prepare him or her for this?
Yes.
While the International Leadership Course is aimed at high-level
private Japanese universities, almost every year one student or more
goes directly to university overseas. These students have not usually
been returnee students. In addition, most ILC graduates study overseas
for a period of time while in university.
* 高校卒業後、留学を考えているのですが、その準備もＩＬＣで出来ますか？
はい。ＩＬＣでは毎年１人か２人海外の大学に直接進学する生徒がおり、その準備のための個人指導も行っています。
留学を希望する生徒は決して帰国子女というわけでもありません。
また、日本の大学に進んでも、大学時代に短期留学をする生徒が沢山います。
* How old is the International Leadership Course? What is the difference between the two-year course and three-year course?
The International Leadership Course started in 1993, and we have worked very hard to improve it every year.
From 1993-2004, the International Leadership Course was a two-year
course that began in the second year of high school. However, starting
in 2005, the course was changed to a three-year course that began in
the first year of high school. The three-year course is basically the
same as the two-year course, the main difference being that in the
three-year course we can go into more depth in certain areas.
* ＩＬＣは創設何年になりますか？ 2年間コースから3年間コースになりましたが、どういう所が変わったのですか？
ＩＬＣは1993年に創設され、毎年成長を続けてきました。
1993年から2004年までは高校2年生からの２年間コースでしたが、2005年から３年間コースになり、
内容に大きな違いはありませんが、一つ一つをより深く、時間をかけて学んでいます。

Reitaku High School has a school trip in the second term of the
students' second year of high school. The International Leadership
Course students also go to Australia at about this time. Does this mean
that the ILC students cannot go on the school trip?
Yes. The ILC students are not able to go on the Reitaku school trip. This is because they will go to Australia at this time.
* 麗澤高校では、2年2学期に九州への修学旅行がありますが、ＩＬＣ生はオーストラリア留学があるため、 学校の修学旅行には参加できないのでしょうか？
同じ時期にオーストラリアへ行くため、九州への修学旅行には参加できません。
*How long do the students stay in Australia? When do they go?
The
students go to Australia for six weeks in the second term of their
second year of high school. We have found that in six weeks the
students’ English ability greatly improves and that they learn about
Australia and Australian culture. This also leaves them plenty of time
to prepare for university entrance exams.
* オーストラリア留学の期間はどれくらいですか？時期はいつですか？
オーストラリア留学は、2年の2学期期に6週間です。
6週間という期間は、生徒の能力の向上、文化に慣れ親しむためにとても効果的です。
また、他教科の勉強のバランスや受験なども考慮に入れて、一番いい長さだと思っています。
We
accept about 35 students per year. The number varies depending on the
number of candidates and the school’s enrollment circumstances. We
accept about 10 students from Reitaku Junior High School and about 25
students from other junior high schools.
* 毎年何名のILC生を募集していますか？
年によって多少の差はありますが、35名程度を募集しています。
ILCは麗澤中学生の希望者も通常10人程度入りますので、高校からの入学生は25名ほどです。
*In what language will the International Leadership Course classes be taught?
The
International Leadership Course classes are generally taught all in
English. However, especially in the first year, teachers will talk to
the students slowly and clearly so that everyone will be able to
understand. Teachers will also use some Japanese in the first year.
Counseling as well as important discussions are also done in Japanese
when necessary.
The English classes taught by the Japanese
teachers are taught mostly in English, while other subjects are taught
in Japanese. Homerooms are done in English and Japanese.
*ＩＬＣの授業は英語で行われますか？
ＩＬＣの授業（週に６時間）は通常全て英語で行われます。
しかし、一年目は生徒のレベルに合わせて、ゆっくり、はっきり、理解を確かめながら話すようにしています。
時には日本語も話します。
また、重要な事柄や相談などは必要に応じて日本語で受けるようにしています。
また、文法や英語 Ｉ などの授業は日本人教員が英語と日本語で行います。
他の教科は全て他クラスと一緒で日本語です。
ホームルームは英語と日本語で行います。
*I am worried that my child may not be able to keep up with the ILC classes. What if he or she falls behind?What is the “after school club?”
In
the International Leadership Course, if we feel that students need to
get extra help, they stay after school and study. This is the “after
school club.”
We will also work with students that need help
and assist them in their studies, improving their learning methods, and
managing their study time. Thus, we make sure that no one will be left
behind. Any student that is willing to work hard can succeed in the
International Leadership Course.
* “アフタースクールクラブ”とは何ですか？
また、もし落ちこぼれてしまった場合のケアはどうなっていますか？
ＩＬＣでは放課後に“アフタースクールクラブ”という補習を行っています。
また、一人ひとりの勉強を見たり、勉強の仕方を考え直したり、時間の使い方についてのアドバイスも行っています。
一人も落ちこぼれることのないように、常に気にかけています。
ＩＬＣでは、一生懸命努力すれば成功できるプログラムが組まれています。
*My child is not good at speaking in front of people.
We have some students who do not like talking in front of people every year, but as they do it again and again, they will get used to speaking in front of people. Practice makes perfect. You will be amazed at what they can do after even one year in the International Leadership Course, and at the end of three years, even the shyest student will have become an excellent public speaker.
* 人前で話をするのが苦手なのですが・・・
人前で話すことが最初から得意な人などとても少数で、最初はみんな得意ではありません。しかし、ＩＬＣでは何度も何度も人前で 話す経験をすることによって、人前で上手に話せるようになるのです。 何事も練習を積み重ねることで上手になります。きっとＩＬＣ卒業時には自分でも驚くくらい人前で話すことが上手になっているはずです。 これも頑張る気持ちがあれば、乗り越えることが出来ます。
*Do most International Leadership Course students go on to study English in university?
No, in fact, only about one out of three continue on to study English. Common majors at university are business, law, politics, economics, and nursing. Other languages are also popular.
*ＩＬＣ生は大学で英語を学ぶ人が多いのですか？
英語系に進む生徒が多いように思われがちですが、実際は違います。
英語系に進むのは3分の１以下で、他の生徒たちは英語を生かしながら、
経済や経営、法律、政治などに進んでいます。
英語以外の言語学科への進学も人気があります。
*Why do you recommend that all candidates come to the International Leadership Course orientation?
The
International Leadership Course is a unique course. There are no other
courses like it in Japan, if not the world. It is a fun but tough
course.
Three years is a long time. Once a student enters, they
cannot change courses, so before making the decision as to whether to
apply for the course or not, we recommend the student attend the
International Leadership Course orientation to learn about the program
in detail from the International Leadership Course teachers.
* ＩＬＣの説明会は参加すべきですか？
必ず参加して下さい。麗澤高校ＩＬＣのカリキュラムユニークで日本に唯一のものです。
楽しいことも沢山ありますが、同時に大変忙しいコースでもあります。
高校三年間は長いです。ＩＬＣでは別のコースに移ることを認めていません。
しっかりと自分の気持ちを確認するために、事前の説明会でＩＬＣの教員の説明を聞き、細かい内容を理解して頂いた後で、入学を決心して欲しいと思っています。
*Do students have to be good at English to join the International Leadership Course?
No.
While you must pass the Reitaku High School entrance exam, which
includes English, and have an interview, being good at English is not
the only thing that we are looking for. We are looking for students
that are willing to work hard. Working hard is the most important thing.
* ＩＬＣに入るためには英語力が高くなければいけないのでしょうか。
最初からハイレベルの英語は求めていません。
麗澤高校の入学試験（他クラスと同じもの）に合格出来る力で充分です。
英語力よりも、ＩＬＣで学びたいという強い気持ちと、頑張るという決心を持って入学して欲しいと思っています。
努力を続けるという決心が一番大切なものです。
